varna- phonemes- the sounds that create the seperations of syllables and then, words. the first 16 varnas, in tantric thought, carry 16 different energies of shiva. the rest of the varnas, of other creative principles. sound and the word in a lot of tantric hindu thought and ontology, are the creators of the world as we know it. an expressive force- sakti- moves through siva, in that movement vibration is created. from that vibration, differentiation. dawn would be at the threshold, the stage of the sensing of the feeling of differentiation, not yet duality. tantric philosophers like Abhinavgupta, have written detailed ontologies that imagine a cosmic dimension to the word, from shiva's state of it to the sound of objects and speech.. the reason why the mantra is special is because it reverses the direction- from the human, it creates the pathway to salvation, through its sound which is trying to link back to the cosmic sound. very science fiction .
