Trymbakeshwar

Only some places retain a special charge. The demons and the gods tugged at Vasuki the snake who was wrapped around the mountain Meru that was being used to churn the ocean.. for the elusive soma, which once tasted, would keep the scythe of death away, forever.

a few drops of Soma fell on a few places on earth.. one of those places was Trymbakeshwar.

It seemed like it would rain forever and no one would survive. The people of Trymbakesvar begged Rishi Gautam to help them. He did, the rain god was appeased. But the other gods were jealous of the growing radiance of Gautam.

They plotted and sent a cow to his fields, in protecting his field, the cow got killed. Gautam had to face the consequences of Gohatya. He had to go the Ganga, to begin with. Gautam prayed to Shiva, who had a special word with Ganga, she came to Trymbakeshavar as the Ganga-Godavari.

And then, on Gautam's and Ganga's request, Shiva came to live at Trybakeshwar.
