around 1942? prabhat films agreed to buy Dadasaheb's story, Japani Pankha. ( Bapu Vatve, who worked in Prabhat Studios then, on his first job, remembers seeing the manuscript. Damle had taken the story, since Shantaram had already left to set up Rajkamal studios in Bombay. Bapu remembers that the assistant director who was in charge of reading all scripts to decide whether they were to be shot or not, told him that the script would not make for a good film.
