For instance there are five different rhetorical devices for leading into the prologue. Thus the words of the producer ( like in Phalke's play Rangabhoomi) who invariably appears in the prologue to announce the play, may be overheard and misunderstood by a character, who gets provoked and begins to act out of feeling provoked, setting off the action.

or parallel action between the producer and a character. Producer forced to retreat as character arrives.

Or character hears the producer and applies what he has said to himself.

or producer introduces a character.

or mentions a particular action which would be appropriate, and a character enters doing just that.

first two seen as being good for street plays. also as being good for comedy.

for general use elsewhere in a play, the Natyashastra mentions 21 other Sandhyantaras or 'other conjunctions'
