Patent acquired in 1879, by Alexander Graham Bell

Bells father had invented a written language that could teach the deaf to speak. Bell himself was much influenced by Samuel Morse's telegraph, but he wanted to push the envelope, he wanted to make a machine that could combine the telegraph and the gramaphone, where people could hear each other speak.
