1873, the word 'industry' is removed from the name Jamsethji Jijibhai School of Art and Industry'

Bombay was unique among the art schools in putting architectural design on its syllabus, and serving in urban planning. The teachers would encourage such commissions, they felt for instance that the exercise in making the gargoyles at VT, gave an experience in the fantastic commons of medeival imaginations in both Indian and Western traditions.
