Trymbakeshwar
Only some places retain a special charge. The demons and the gods were exhausted pulling Mount Meru between them, trying to make it churn the mighty ocean. The rope was the giant snake Vasuki. All manners of gems were thrown up from the waters, Kamadhenu, the cow that gave all, a white horse.. the sky got new constellations but for the gods, they were still searching for the elusive soma, which once tasted, would keep the scythe of death away, forever.
a few drops of the Soma that appeared fell on some places on earth.. one of those places was Trymbakeshwar.
In a time when there was no plough, what did it take to have a greener field? What did Rishi Gautam do, he flung seeds on the ground like everyone else, how did his field specially prosper? On earth, Gautam was specially respected, but the gods grew jealous of his growing radiance.
They plotted and sent a hungry cow to his field. Gautam merely threw a piece of mud at her, how did she die? Gohatya is a crime with no easy penance.
Gautam prayed desperately? to Shiva.
Ganga would not refuse Shiva, so she came to Trymbakeshavar as the Ganga-Godavari.
And then Shiva came to live at Trymbakeshwar.
