Kashyap

From PhalkeFactory

konkanasth brahmans with a unbroken male lineage descending from Kashyap?

Kashyap, a turtle

He becomes a bit warmer, slowly, suddenly, in fact.. no friendliness for three days, a mask of a face and then one day, it suddenly slips. It is M of course- he manages to relax people into talking, has a kind way about him, people let slip their guard. on that fourth day of friendship, he consented to have tea with us ( no lunch, lunch was always at home, he said and looked like he might invite us, but he did not).. The citizenship of this city is a conferred right he said, from forefathers who had something to do with Phalke. and what did your forefather do? i would have asked crudely. M just waited, nodding his head once and Kashyap told us, his great grandfather had been a renowned pandit, an alchemist it turned out Phalke had once had an interest in alchemy.. I think if only M was around, he would have told us some more, some tall story that was hidden in his mind as history of his forefathers, but he was not forthcoming in my surly company.

M:

Some names, like his, carry echoes from far behind. The individual before you struggles to retain his self, to not get blown by the winds in those echo corridors, his shoulders get bent in the struggle.

Some sounds have resonance..their tuning fork sets up another sound somewhere from the past, and another and another. Need to tune in to hear that music. Now that we have met him and noted his name, the turtle will appear everywhere, as will the sage, the bird like non turtle visage of the man before us.

he will know what we are seeking, he will look back and show us another city, the city of his grandfather.
